wearing the garlands worn by You earlier. You become joyous over His expression of
affection resulting from Your Kaimkaryam. You cast Your shy glances at His crown

blue lotus garland has been overlaid on the existing garlands there.

Meaning:

In this Paasuram, Aandal calls upon Nappinnai Piratti to help them in their unification with Shri Krishna.

muppathu moovar amararkku mun senRu kappam thavirkkum kaliye/முப்பத்து மூவர் அமரர்க்கு முன் சென்று கப்பம் தவிர்க்கும் கலியே: There are 8 kinds of explanation for this. Aandal pleads Shri Krishna to give them Dharshan and accuses Him of being onesided in 8 ways.

1) Aandal says, "Will you just rescue/save the Thirty Three Crores plus Devas? Will you not do the same to these five lakh aaichiyars in Aayarpaadi?

2) Will you only help men folks (devas like Indira etc., and Rakshasas like Vibeeshana/Prahladha) from danger and have you taken a vow to not help girls like us?

3) Will you only help those from miseries who are rich and powerful? Will you not help us folks who are helpless?

4) Will you only help those who think they are "Swathanthras" and not us who call ourselves "Dasas" for you?!

5) Will you only help those who come to you with expectation for cheap returns (like Indra who came to you to save his wealth from Narakasura) and not us Gopikas who do not expect anything from you expect yourself!! (Ananyaprayojanar)

6) Looks like you are here to only fall on your feet when they need you and who fight with you once their job is done?! Like Indira, who fought with Krishna after Krishna helped him regain his lost wealth from Narakasura!! You seem to be not worrying about all of us Gopikas who want to only sing praise to your Lotus Feet!!

7) Looks like you are here to only help those who want you to suffer, like the Devathas who wanted you to go to forest during Rama Avatar, and those who wanted Amruth when you were churning the Parkadal. We are here to just sing your praise and worrying how we can prevent any harm reaching you and you dont seem to bother

8) Are you here to only help those who want protection for this human body and not to those who are wanting protection for the Athma?!

mun sendRu kappanm thavirkkum/முன் சென்று கப்பம் தவிர்க்கும் - You seem to be going right before some harm happens to your bhagavathas and not after it has arisen and thus protect them.

kaliyee thuyilezhaai/கலியே துயிலெழாய் - Hey Supreme! Please wake up and come to protect us!!

seppamutaiyaai thiraludaiyaai/செப்பமுடையாய் திறலுடையாய் - Hey the one who stands first in preventing bad things from happening to your Bhakthas and the abilities to do them as well

seTraarkku veppam kodukkum/செற்றாருக்கு வெப்பம் கொடுக்கும் - Hey Shri Krishna. On hearing your name, your enemies (bhaktha's enemies are His enemies) fear and get fever

vimala thuyilezhaai/விமலா துயிலெழாய் - The one who is impartial and flawless. Please wake up!!

Now after pouring out and crying to Shri Krishna to come to help them and bless them, as Shri Krishna has not come, the Aaichiyars turn to Nappinnai Piratti and plead her.

seppenna menmulai sevvai sirumarungul nappinnai nangaay/செப்பென்ன மென்முலை செவ்வாய் சிறுமருங்குல் நப்பின்னை நங்காய்- Hey Nappinnai Piratti! The beautiful one, with red lips and thin hips. Nangaai/நங்காய் - Hey the one who is complete with all the positive qualities!!

thiruvee/திருவெ - Here the word Thiru represents Periya Piratti. Since Nappinnai Piratti is the Prime Queen in Shri Krishna Avatar, Aandal prays Nappinnai Piratti and calls her as Thiru Herself, and pleads her for being the Purushakaram to attain Moksha.

thuyilezhaai/துயிலெழாய் - Now Aandal pours out and cries to Nappinnai Piratti. She asks her to come out and help them just like Shri Krishna would come out when He hears the cry of His Bhakthas and as He has always done to protect them. She calls upon Nappinnai Piratti and tells her that only a female can understand the heart of another and wants Her to come and open the door so they can serve both Nappinnai Piratti & Shri Krishna.

ukkamum thattoLiyum thandhun maNaaLanai/உக்கமும் தட்டொளியும் தந்துன் மணாளனை- Please give us a hand fan, and mirror as they are items to be given for Vrath as well as Shri Krishna, your husband so we can serve Him

ippodhe emmai neerattu/இப்போதே எம்மை நீராட்டு - Please open the door and bless us with Bhakthi Shower

Day 20, Godha Weaves a Vow(English Poem)

Godha Weaves her vow - English poem

One that saves
Those demi gods thirty three
Arise , awake and ahead
You who sheathes
Those that submit at Your Feet
You are the one
Whose might fears the foe
Oh the purer than the purest of them all
I beg you to feel this call.

Nappinnai,
The one with golden nipples
As curved as the watery urn
The one who shall not bear
A moments parting from Him so dear
Oh the one with reddish lips
And waist so thin
The Goddess of wealth, Napinnai its you,
Wake up, I plead.

When you are up from rest
Part ye
With Him, the fan
And that looking glass
We need to fulfil our vow
Such distance as this from Him
So Nappinai bathe your beings from these deeds of yours.

Day 20 - Did you know...

.….that Krishna devaraya, the famed emperor of Vijayanagaram, has written an epic for Andal in Telugu?

Once Krishna devaraya took the opportunity of visiting "Srikakulam", the shrine of Vishnu in Krishna district, also called Andhra-Vishnu. That being 'Yekadasi' day, the Emperor maintained fast, being an ardent devotee of Vishnu. That night he was blessed with the sight of the Lord, accompanied by His consort Lakshmi. The Lord admonished him to write about “Godhai”, who used to offer Him garlands, after wearing them herself first and whom the Lord had married later. Hence Krishnnadevaraya wrote “Amukta malyada” (meaning: Sanskrit equivalent of “Soodikkoduttha Nachiyar”) in Telugu. It deals with the theme of Goda Devi’s love for Sri Ranganathar and their marriage.

In this, Krishnadevaraya has also included :
1) Alavandar charitam : Rama misrar bringing back Aalavandhar to Srivaishnavam.

2) Periyalwar charitam : Winning the debate in Pandya Kingdom thereby proving the supremacy of Sriman Narayana and the “Vishisthathvaitham” .

3) Nampaduvan story : A great devotee whom he calls “Mala dasari” and whose charitam is remembered on the day of kaisika yekadasi.

Day 20 Recipe - Thayyir Vadai (Curd Vadai)

Ingredients:

Urad dhall : 1 cup
Curd : 3 cups
Coconut : 5 tbsp
Coriander leaves
Green chilli : 2
Salt : 1 tsp
Asafoetida

Mustard seeds for seasoning
Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:
  • Soak Urad Dhall for about 1/2 hour.
  • Grind it in the grinder without adding much water. Keep it aside
  • In a big bowl, blend the curd very well. Grind the coconut, green chilli, coriander leaves and add to the curd. Add desired salt to it. Keep aside
  • In a pan, add oil enough for frying vadais. Pat the urad dhall in a plaintain leaf or plastic sheet or you can also use your palm, drop it in the oil to make the vadai.
  • Keep a bowl of warm water by side.
  • Take the vadai out of the kadai and put that in the warm water, squeeze it a bit and put that in the curd now.
  • After finishing all the vadais, garnish it with coriander leaves on top, season it with mustard.

TIPS :
  • You should add the vadai immediately to the warm water and curd once you take out from the oil. That is the secret to get soft thayir vadai.
  • Always keep the fire in medium flame while frying vadais.
