Day 21 - Did you know...

.....that the verses “Paal soriyum Vallal perum pasukkal - Yethir pongi meethalippa” [paasuram :21] of “Thiruppavai” refers to Ramanujar and other Acharyas ?

[paasuram : 21 : Yetra kalangal]

Direct meaning : Cows in Ayarpaadi need not be milked. They themselves shower milk (Paal soriyum) if the “teat” is just touched and hence the vessels overflow with milk (Ethir pongi) in no senconds. They never withdraw themselves (maatraathe) and keep showering milk.

Inner meaning : In Bhagavath Geetha, Krishna says that a Sishya has to go to an Acharyan and perform all kainkaryams to be taught. But Ramanujar was extremely compassionate that when he got the “Thirumanthira upadesam” from Thirukottiyoor Nambi, stood on top of the tower above the front gate of the Thirukottiyoor temple and shouted out the sacred mantra to all of the people. Though the sishyas don’t even realize that they are suffering in the ocean of “Samsaara”, Acharyan with his motherly love (Vatsalyam) comes forward and guides the Sishyas.

Thus they are very much comparable to the Aayarpadi cows who shower milk on their own.

  1. I have heard different explanations on Ramanujar's Upadesham "TO ALL"

Can anyone get back with the apt references?
    ALL means - Who all?

  2. Well I have heard this too : "All" means "ஆசை உடையோர்க்கெல்லாம் "....those who have wish to attain moksha irrespective of Caste and creed...

  3. In Guru Parampara Prabhavam it never says Ramanuja climbed on top of something and shouted. It only said Ramanuja did the Upadesa!! There is no proof for that story!

  5. Recently adiyen has been listening to Velukudi swami's Mumukshupadi vyakhyanam, wherein swami further explains the concept of Ramanujar getting the sayings of Thirukotiyoor nambi about the Rahasya artham. With reference to that, here are two more clarifications :

    1) After getting the manthra arthams, Ramanujar went to the second stage of the temple (Irandamm nilai) and explained the artham to those people who were "Interested" in getting the arthams as mentioned per the comment no: 2 (those who have wish to attain moksha irrespective of Caste and creed...) and not to all the people, .

    2) Also, it was "Charmasloka artham" and not "Thirumanthra artham" which he explained to those people.
