Day 20 - Did you know...

.….that Krishna devaraya, the famed emperor of Vijayanagaram, has written an epic for Andal in Telugu?

Once Krishna devaraya took the opportunity of visiting "Srikakulam", the shrine of Vishnu in Krishna district, also called Andhra-Vishnu. That being 'Yekadasi' day, the Emperor maintained fast, being an ardent devotee of Vishnu. That night he was blessed with the sight of the Lord, accompanied by His consort Lakshmi. The Lord admonished him to write about “Godhai”, who used to offer Him garlands, after wearing them herself first and whom the Lord had married later. Hence Krishnnadevaraya wrote “Amukta malyada” (meaning: Sanskrit equivalent of “Soodikkoduttha Nachiyar”) in Telugu. It deals with the theme of Goda Devi’s love for Sri Ranganathar and their marriage.

In this, Krishnadevaraya has also included :
1) Alavandar charitam : Rama misrar bringing back Aalavandhar to Srivaishnavam.

2) Periyalwar charitam : Winning the debate in Pandya Kingdom thereby proving the supremacy of Sriman Narayana and the “Vishisthathvaitham” .

3) Nampaduvan story : A great devotee whom he calls “Mala dasari” and whose charitam is remembered on the day of kaisika yekadasi.
