Meaning:
Shri Krishna came out to see the Gopikas hearing their cry. On seeing Shri Krishna, the Gopikas felt very happy that Shri Krishna came out to fulfill their wish. The sight of Shri Krishna and the beauty of His walk. They lost their senses of where they are and when in the Shrushti they are (in Kaliyuga), and started worrying about all the events he had walked in Krutha, Thretha, Dwapara Yugas.
(andru ivvulagam aLandhai adi poTRi/அன்று இவ்வுலகம் அளந்தாய் அடி போற்றி) Having lost the sense of time, Aandal starts worrying about what happened in Kritha Yuga, when Indira lost all his welth to Mahabali. Perumal took the form of Vamana and measured all the 7 worlds with 3 steps of His, to get back what was "His" and gave it back to Indira. Aandal, compares this with the steps that Shri Krishna had taken towards them. Indira, though was a Prayojananthraparar (expecting something in return from Perumal other than Himself, wealth in this case), made Sriman Narayana to reduce Himself and be born as Vamana. Not only that Sriman Narayana begged from Mahabali to give him land to the measure of three steps, which was in fact what was His ie., all the worlds belong to Sriman Narayana, yet he begged to Mahabali to give him land measuring 3 steps of His. Indira was selfish to make Sriman Narayana walk for an inferior return and made Him suffer with the three steps he had to take. Similarly, Andal feels that their act of asking Shri Krishna to come out and bless them caused harm to the tender feet of Shri Krishna.
Even though Aandal, was an Anyaprayojanaparar/அந்யப்ரயோஜனபரர் (one who expects nothing but Sriman Narayana Himself from Him, or in other words Moksha), which is unlike what Indira expected, Aandal feels very sad for having made Him take the steps for them.
Also she praises Shri Krishna, again comparing with what happened in Vamana Avatar. During Vamana Avathar, everyone in the world were blessed by the grace of the sand falling from the feet of Thiruvikrama. Here Shri Krishna's steps blessed everyone in Aayarpaadi.
Sampradhaya Meaning: Like Vamana begging for land measuring 3 steps of his feet by reducing His glory and by not worrying about the hardships he had to undergo, Aacharyas who are Nithya Soori's amsam, are born just like another person in this earth, and beg to us to, "Wont you listen to Thirumanthraartham?", "Wont you listen to Geetha Bhashyam?", "Wont you listen to RahasyaThrayam?", "Wont you listen to Arthapanchakam?", and so on. Like Thrivikrama who by his blessings took all to Moksha, Aacharyas through their Purushartha helps all Bhagavathas to attain Moksha
She thus saw similarities with what happened "then" to what is happening in front of her "now".
(sendRangu thennilangai seTRaai thiral pooTRi/சென்றங்கு தென்னிலங்கை செற்றாய் திறல் போற்றி) During Thretha Yuga, Shri Rama walked all the way to Lanka to rescue Sita. In the process He killed Ravana in his own backyard. Aandal, thinking of Shri Rama walking bearfoot in the forest, felt that she was in that Yug (Threta Yug), and felt very sad to see His foot being hurt by the thorns and stones on the way. She feels so sad to see the Lotus Feet, which is so tender, so tender that even the flowers will hurt, is walking on stones and thorns. And so she blesses Him and wishes that nothing happens to Shri Rama.
Thinking of the way Shri Rama killed Ravana, like plucking a grass out of the earth, Aandal was moved to see the might of Shri Rama. Again worrying that evil eyes might prey on Rama, blesses Him that He lives long. After all Aandal is the daughter of Periyazhwar who had song Mangalasasanams to Perumal isnt it!!
Sampradhaya Meaning:Like Shri Rama, destroyed Ravana who was bent not to be subservient and who had not accepted Perumal and who has forgotten his Swaroopam (Seshathvame aathmaavukku swaroopam - mumukshupadi/சேஷத்வமே ஆத்மாவுக்கு ஸ்வரூபம் - முமூக்ஷுபடி), Aacharyas destroy the Ahankara and Mamakara in the Jeevathma and help us realize our Swaroopa, which is to be subservient to Perumal.
Like Shri Rama, walked tens and thousands of miles to bless Vibheeshana and accept his sharanagathi, our Aacharyas walk through the length and breadth of this earth to ensure that all the bhakthas are enlightened about their athma swaroopa and be a purushartha for their attaining of Moksha.
(pondRa chakatam udhaithai pugazh poTRi/பொன்றச் சகடம் உதைத்தாய் புகழ் போற்றி) Now Aandal thinks of Shri Krishna avatar in Dwapara Yug. We know that Aandal is living in Kali Yug and is imagining the Vrath being taken along with Gopikas and is already living in Dwapara Yug.
Having worried and praised the Vamana Avatar and Shri Rama Avatar, Aandal thinks about Shri Krishna and starts to worry even more. The reason being, unlike in Vamana Avatar or Shri Rama Avatar, when the enemies are very clearly seen (Mahabali and Ravana), in Shri Krishna Avatar, harm comes to Shri Krishna from every where from every form. Even though Kamsa was the enemy, Shri Krishna had trouble from Rakshasas who took many forms - Bhoothanai, Chakataasuran, Bakasuran etc). She was worried that harm might come to Shri Krishna even from a small plant.
Then she thinks of the way Shri Krishna killed Chakatasuran by simply kicking it just like a baby would kick. Also she thinks of the way by which Shri Krishna tactfully killed two raksasas, Vathsaasruan and Kapiththaasuran, again without any sort of fighting with them. Shri Krishna used Vathsaasuran as a slingshot to hit at Kapiththasuran who was in the form of a fruit in a tree.
But again while thinking of this, Aandal again fears that the Aasuras might fell on top of Shri Krishna, and blesses Him to be safe, while praising his strength and valour.
(kundRu kudaiyaai eadtuththai pugazh pooTri/குன்று குடையாய் எடுத்தாய் புகழ் போற்றி) Indira, who having been helped by Sriman Narayana to get back his lost wealth, got angry on Shri Krishna who had eaten all the food that the Aayars had kept for him(indira) as an offering. Having got angry, he poured rain in Thiruvaipadi, and Shri Krishna, lifted Govardhana Giri, like lifting a stone and used it as an umbrella to protect the innoncent people of Thiruvaipadi who knew nothing but what Shri Krishan tells them and who expect nothing but the service of theirs to Shri Krishna.
Here Aandal, praises the Kalyana Guna of Shri Krishna, which saved Indira from being killed by Krishna. Krishna having eaten all Indira's food, felt that Indira is only angry on him because he is hungry and has no food left for him, and his anger will soon subside, and so it did. This guna of showing mercy over killing is praised in this line by Aandal, and she blesses that such guna live long.
Having praised Shri Krishna's lotus feet, now she turns her attention towards His hand. She sees the spear in Shri Krishna's hand, and praises it and blesses it to live long so it can help Bhagavathas as it had done in the past by protecting them and by killing their enemies.
(endRenRum un seevagamee eeththip paNikoLvaan/என்றென்றும் உன் சேவகமே எத்திப் பணிகொள்வான்) Singing the praise of Shri Krishna, and blessing Him (Mangalasasanam/மங்களாஸாஸனம்) and being of service to Shri KRishna, is what the Aaichiyars are expecting and wanting that to last forever. Here in this line the word "Parai" does not mean Shri Vaikunta, but means the Kainkaryam, which is the result that every jeevathma should expect from Paramathma.
(inDru yaam vandhom irangu/இன்று யாம் வந்தோம் இரங்கு) Here we are today, having forgotten you all these days, having fallen prey to the lust and greed of this worldly life all these days. Here we are seeking Sharanagathi to you, wanting nothing but Kainkaryapraapthi from you. Please have mercy.
Sampradhaya Meaning:
Aandal, had the longing to have union with Shri Krishna. She gathered all the Bhagavathas in the earlier Paasurams. She took Purushakaram from the Gate keepers (kooyil kaappan/கோயில் காப்பான், nandhagopar, yasodha, balaraman and Nappinnai Piratti). Having approached Shri Krishna, through the purushakaram of bhagavathas and piratti, is the way to perform Sharnagathi according to Shri Vaishnava Sampradhayam. It is the belief, that Sriman Narayana will then only heed to our request to attain Moksha and rid us of this Samsara.

adinaayen ramanuja dasan.
